We had 9 applications for the Doctoral Prize. This year there were no submissions for the Masters Prize. We appointed an Evaluation Commission composed by academics from our Network and invited external evaluators. We provide below the details of the Evaluation Commission. The results of the competition were announced on 10 October 2019 during the <a href=\"https:\/\/roxpublicidade.com.br\/waterlat\/01\/meetings\/public-meetings\/waterlat-gobacit-2019\/\">X International Meeting of the WATERLAT-GOBACIT Network<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>The Prize<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Doctoral Prize 2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Marcos Cristiano Zucarelli<\/strong>. Thesis title: \u201cThe mathematics of management and the muddy soul: the conflicts of governance in the approval of the mining project Minas-Rio and in the SAMARCO disaster\u201d (in Portuguese). PhD in Anthropology, with specialization in Social Anthropology, Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Special Mention<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Zenaida Luisa\u00a0Lauda Rodriguez<\/strong>. Thesis title: \u201cThe precautionary principle in socio-environmental conflicts over water resources and mining. A comparative study of Brazil and Portuguese\u201d (in Portuguese). PhD in Environmental Sciences, University of Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, Brazil, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Special Mention<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rafael Caldeira Magalh\u00e3es<\/strong>. Thesis title: \u201cWater and sanitation plans in Belem (1980 a 2015): rationalities, institutional changes, inter-sector dynamics and social participation\u201d (in Portuguese). PhD in Water and Sanitation, Environment, and Water Resources, Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Also, given the quality of the applications, the <a href=\"https:\/\/roxpublicidade.com.br\/waterlat\/01\/publications\/publications-commission\/\">Editorial Commission<\/a> decided to invite all other candidates to submit an article based on their thesis for publication in the Network&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/roxpublicidade.com.br\/waterlat\/01\/publications\/working-papers-series\/\">Working Papers Series<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>This is the full list of participating candidates:<\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Doctoral Prize<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Germain de Jes\u00fas Esquivel Hern\u00e1ndez<\/strong>.
